Flipping through my December issue of ELLE, I came across a great article about—what else—lipstick! In the piece entitled Lip Service, Beauty Writer April Long discusses the texture of today's lipsticks, and describes some as being "supersheer, moisturizing, and a lot more fun than the formulas our mothers wore." Ashley Greene has been vamping it up a lot lately—not only in the movies, but also on her lips on four different occasions. She rocked a decadent red at the Breaking Dawn Concert Tour at the House Of Blues in Chicago on November 8th, at a party for Breaking Dawn in Dallas, Texas on November 9th, and again at the premiere of Breaking Dawn at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. on November 14th. Finally, she changed it up a bit with a bright fuchsia color for a Today Show taping in New York City on November 16th.

Evelyn Lauder, Beauty Legend and Creator of Cancer's Pink Ribbon, Dies at 75

Evelyn LauderEvelyn Lauder, pink ribbon pioneer and beauty legend, died yesterday in her home. She was 75.

In her long career as an executive at Estée Lauder, the company founded by her mother-in-law, Lauder played with many shades of red and pink. Her biggest contribution to beauty, though, was to breast cancer awareness.

It was Evelyn, along with her friend and former Self editor Alexandra Penney, who created the Pink Ribbon Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness in 1992. In 1989, Lauder learned she had breast cancer, though she rarely brought attention to her own battle. Instead, she focused on women's health as a whole. She also founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which has reportedly raised more than $350 million.

She met her husband Leonard, the elder son of Estée Lauder and whose family owned what was then a small cosmetics company, as a college freshman. "We had five products in the line, we only had two or three colors in our lipsticks," she told news channel NY1 in 2005. "It was a baby company."

Although October Breast Cancer Awareness Month has passed, we can still honor Evelyn Lauder and her epic contributions to beauty and health by continuing her legacy.
